Aquatic Certifications

American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard Course

Participants in this class earn certifications in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED Essentials, Lifeguard training and Waterfront lifeguarding. In order to participate in this class, you must be at least 15 years old and  pass a swim test which includes the following: A 550 yard swim which must include 200 yards of front crawl with rhythmic breathing, 200 yards breaststroke and 150 yards of front crawl. Participants must also be able to dive to a depth of 9-13 feet, retrieve an object and swim 20 yards.

 Water Safety Instructor

Become certified to teach American Red Cross swimming and water safety courses. You must be at least 16 years old and pass a pre test. This class is offered regularly. For information on current offerings consult the seasonal Skaneateles Y  brochure or  CLICK HERE 

SCUBA

The YMCA/SSI SCUBA course consists of 1 1/2 hours in both the classroom and pool each evening, plus four open-water dives. Certified instructor Henry MacDonald brings extensive knowledge and certification at all levels of SCUBA diving. Mr. MacDonald is the co-owner/operator of Finger Lakes SCUBA in Auburn NY.
