Join the fitness staff at the Auburn YMCA  9 am-noon for a fun, informational morning. In addition to class demonstrations , vendors and guest speakers will be here to answer your fitness and health related questions. Our goal is to make exercise fun, to increase awareness of the benefits of a regular exercise program for older adults, and to encourage all older adults to take advantage of the many health and fitness programs offered at the Auburn YMCA.

This event is free and open to the public.

Did you know….
Older adult functioning is positively influenced by weight training and cardiovascular exercise. After strength training older adults are able to stand up out of a chair more easily and walk around easier and are able to walk further and faster. There is also an improvement in balance and they are able to ascend and descend the stairs faster. As with any exercise program, please consult your physician before beginning any class.

Enhance®Fitness is geared toward older adults, and those with a chronic condition, such as arthritis. Classes are designed to safely increase a participants’ fitness levels through aerobic and strength training exercises while building a sense of community and social contentedness among class members. FOREVER FIT:  This class is designed to help the Active Older Adult increase strength and improve balance through the use of hand weights and chair-assisted exercises. This class is also involved in community events and social gatherings. We meet twice a week in the A-gym!

SENIOR STRENGTH:  Strength Training Staff will assist you with the Nautilus circuit that is located in the upstairs Cardio Room.  No appointment is necessary.

PURE GOLD: (formerly known as Silver Sneakers) This program is designed to increase strength, range of movement, agility, balance and coordination, and to improve participants’ functional capacities, physical fitness level and sense of well-being. Members will use a variety of tools including hand weights, rubber tubing and a small ball. Although this is a chair assisted class it can accommodate any Active Older Adult or member who is seeking out a beginner level class after physical therapy.

TAI-CHI: The gentle flowing movements of Tai-Chi are sometimes described as “meditation in motion” because they promote serenity while connecting the mind and body. Each posture flows into the next without pause.

 ZUMBA Gold®– takes the Zumba Fitness formula and modifies the moves and pacing to suit the needs of the active older participant. Music varies to from Latin, swing, merengue, salsa, and many others! Come join our dance fitness party! 

In addition to the above classes the Y offers Fitness Classes in the pool.
Try Deep Water Fitness, Rusty Hinges or Aquacize. 

Water Walking: Excellent low impact workout! Walk or jog through deep water. Participants should be comfortable in deep water.
Rusty Hinges For those who are living with arthritis or other conditions that can be helped by mild range of motion  exercises in the water.
Aquacise Exercise: Done in shallow water. Includes, stretching, aerobics,   walking & cool down.
Deep Water Fitness: Participants use float belts and barbells to tone and build upper body strength.
